Knowledge in the Realm of Science & Religion Are they Really
Different?
The Dilemma
By Morris
Dweck
We all know
that G-d is the source of ultimate knowledge and truth. As such it
is impossible for any knowledge to contradict anything written in
the Torah since the entire Torah is directly from G-d. So when we
are faced with any information that seems to contradict the Torah we
don't have to search to see which one is true, but seek to
understand how they can reconcile the apparent contradictions. One
subject that lends itself to these apparent contradictions is the
creation story. For this reason during the past couple of months
Rabbi Haber's Sunday morning class has taken up the subject of
science and Beresheit.
One Sunday morning the class was privileged enough to
hear from a guest lecturer, Professor Nathan Aviezer of Bar Ilan
University. The lecture was a big hit with many community members
attending the class along with the boys who have class with Rabbi
Haber every Sunday morning. Professor Aviezer spoke with much
enthusiasm and insight, stressing the fact that the apparent
contradictions can be removed if we scratch past the surface. It was
also obvious that the people at the lecture intended to do so, for
Professor Aviezer sold all of the books he had brought with him.
